Changing sim on unlocked phone

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I'm switching to a different carrier so put the new sim into my iPhone. Unfortunately it won't activate as it says my phone is locked to another carrier (o2). I don't understand that though as I bought the phone directly from Apple as an 'unlocked' phone so I can't see why it would be locked to o2. I've applied to o2 to unlock my phone, is that all I need to do?

Thanks,

Tony

Yes, just apply to o2 to unlock it as you have done and they will unlock it usually within 72 hours.

Hi,

Thanks for both of the replies - I was just a bit confused as it was an unlocked phone. I'll wait and see what happens when o2 unlocks the phone.

Apple have both sim free phones and network specific ones (for upgrading customers) so I guess they gave you the wrong type.
There is no problem unlocking it though and will remain unlocked once done.

Not sure that's the same thing as CPW don't have fully Sim free iPhones.
