Wow, this is proving to be difficault.
I am trying to change the name of my02 account to be the same as my active email address. My old email account was used to register myO2 account many years ago, before I understood what My02 was. I setup a Dongle around 12 months ago which I never got working. In the process I used my new email account. The number on the dongle was setup as my main contact number. I cant change this number to my mobile, I cant merge the accounts.
What am I doing wrong?

Best option would be to talk to o2 on the phone to reset all login details http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Did you manage to change your email? We know it is weird but, your email is your username. Therefore, as @MI5 said, you can change it under My O2 > My details > Manage your contact and sign in details:
Username: xxxx@yyyy.xx
We'll send any communications that you've chosen to receive and updates about your bills and account (e.g. help if you forget your password) to this email address, so make sure it's one you have access to.
