Glad all is sorted. Did you send the original letter cancelling by recorded delivery? You'd be amazed at how many of these get "lost in the post", a problem that affects more or less any service. Royal mail must have a giant room somewhere full of people's cancellation letters
All cancellations for pretty much any service should be done in writing and by recorded delivery so you have proof the request was received. The only main exception for mobile is if you use a PAC code to keep your number as using the code will automatically terminate the old account
