I received the iPhone 5 today. Wi-fi is working perfectly but I can't use the phone as it tells me I have No Service. I have rebooted the phone but no joy. My iPhone 4 is still working, thankfully so at least I can still make phone calls.
Anyone have any ideas how I can actually get the new phone to 'see' the cell network?

you have done the swap between your old micro sim to the new nano sim? http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/
assuming this was an upgrade

It was an end of contract upgrade and came with the new SIM. Would I be correct in assuming I should now remove the old SIM from the iPhone 4? If that is what I need to do I now feel incredibly stupid.

You need to use the swapmysim form to move your number and tariff to the nano sim takes up to 24 hours.
Just turn the 4 of and on and when it loses signal try turning of and on the 5 then it should work.

Thanks, didn't know I had to do that. When I asked previously about upgrading no-one mentioned having to do that. I've filled out the form, now it is just a matter of waiting. I have a new SIM for the iPhone 4 as I intend to wipe it it and then pass it on to my Mum to use on PAYG.
