Hi can someone help. I've a monthly contract have been for many years unlimited texts etc but have been charged for texts over Xmas and new year. Have I missed any new info. Any help would be appreciated

If you sent them as MMS rather than SMS (ie to groups of people) you will be charged as they do not come out of your allowance.

If you've been charged 35p per message, that's an MMS charges, like said by MI5, not included in your allowance unfortunately

I recently learned that if you send a text but add a smiley face or other icon to it, then it will almost always go through as a MMS even if you don't think it is the general MMS format (a picture).

You can turn off MMS auto conversion in settings. Also, on an iPhone turn off the subject field option and don't send any sms to email addresses.
