Apple Watch - won’t connect

I purchased an Apple Watch SE cellular for my son direct from Apple yesterday. I have set the watch and when I go to select the mobile data I get the following message.

The 02 account on this iPhone cannot be used to add a mobile plan to "Apple Watch".

For more information about Apple Watch mobile plans visit https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular.

Not wanting to waste people’s time I done a little research on here.

First issue, seems to be idata. When I call o2 they have no idea what idata is… I did however get the lady I call to put my phone down as an iPhone and this fixed my visual voicemail issue I have had for a year now. Do I still need to pursue this idata?

My second issue I found was the fact I had a zero spend cap. I have now raised this to £5 to allow for the add on of the watch payment in the future once it lets me select this.

my case has now been raised to another team and will take between 5-10 days which is pretty shocking.

is there anything else I can try in the mean time.

kind regards

Paul

Is your son on Pay Monthly or PAYG?

The spend cap on your phone has no impact on your sons phone.

Also if you link the apple watch to your phone, then your son will get all your phone calls and texts/.

Sorry, should have explained that better. The watch is being set up from my o2 account. I have a pay monthly contract.

The watch is being set up as a family member from my o2 account.

Take a look at this thread, @Gorms - https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple/Add-another-Apple-Watch-to-my-account/m-p/1518776/highlight/true...

And note that bringing additional products into a single MyO2 account has been suspended while O2 move all users to the new System 360 back-end accounting system and move VM customer accounts to O2.

You may find persistence helps, but be prepared for a struggle - good luck, @Gorms.

Apologies, my mistake, not the family setup.

I want to purchase the o2 airtime plan as stated in the following link.

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/device-and-sim-support/apple-watch

Under the step

How do I buy an Airtime Plan on an Apple Watch that I already have?

I fail at the first hurdle

Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap on ‘Mobile Data’.

Then tap ‘Set up mobile data’. You’ll be prompted to sign in with your My O2 username and password.

I get the following

The 02 account on this iPhone cannot be used to add a mobile plan to "Apple Watch".
