App Store : Now you can grab the last compatible App version on legacy devices.

Starting today : 17/9/13.

Previously on the Apple App Store if you tried to download an App that was unsupported for your iOS current firmware / Hardware, all you got was a pop up message saying so.

Now users will be offered a prompt to download the last compatible version available for your iOS  and Hardware.

Sometimes its the little things that increases a better user experience.

That's if it's still stocked there.

I nearly got caught with my pants down after clearing space for my ios 7 update and thought I'll grab my apps from the cloud, but a couple had vanished! (not in the store or purchase history)

Luckily I have most apps on my PC!

Cheeky that you could lose stuff have coughed up for!

I always back up to iTunes and iCloud.

That way I'm covered if I need to back up.

You shouldn't need to re pay for a product you have paid for.

Theirs the re download purchased items in iTunes ,or you can contact Apple and if they confirm the item was purchased they can re push it to your account.

The back up you carried out before updating should have held all your info.

When I updated to iOS 7 I installed from my iCloud back up with no issues.

Hi

I didn't bother with a cloud account as I don't like itunes as it is.

I only chose Apple as I liked the ipod touch versatility and purchased the ipad to save buying apps again.

Since they changed itunes (in it's present form) it's so much faff.

Its a great idea. My dad has a first generation iPad so he'll be happy with this.

Does Android have a similar option?

There are usually older versions of apps available. Play store will check for compatibility with the device requesting the app and push the appropriate version.
