Only CS can activate a new sim unless it's a sim swap which can be done here http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/ however, from the info we have, it appears to be a new contract?

Thanks everyone, eventually got it together - O2 being flaky last night. New iPhone set up is horrible, these days by the way. Had to enter a pass word 17 times for different mac apps. Frustrating!
