6 Week Wait For iPhone 5S Pre-Order In Store!!

Anonymous

Hello, I was first in my local O2 store today to order the iPhone 5S. I paid £329.99 up front for the phone and I have to wait 6 weeks for it!!!! Why do I have to wait 6 weeks for the phone when the online orders show a delivery date of the 24th September 2013. This is redicilous!!!! I have never known anything like it. I'm an O2 customer and because I want to upgrade early to a O2 Refresh contract I have to either pre-order the phone in store or by phone. I can't do it online. And I have to wait six weeks. Yet, if I am a new customer who wants to order the phone online I can get it on the 24th September. Where is the customer loyalty in that!!!!!

Well, i did phone my local o2 store, who told me that information. So i phoned phones4u, who had plenty in stock i also called vodafone (for my partner) and they too had loads in stock.

I went to phones4u, did my upgrade for o2, and i am now happy with my new phone, albeit frustrated at the transfer of my number to the new sim taking so long.

Like you I got to the O2 shop to upgrade to the 5S. Paid £169.99 for a 4G/16Gb in slate. Told that they didn't have stock and delivery would be 1st November. I expressed my frustration but was told all 'network' shops in same boat. Also told that no different online, 6 week delays.
When I got home checked the website and saw that I could get exactly what I had ordered at the shop but delivered on Tuesday 24th September!!
My question is, can I cancel my shop order, get a refund if my £169.99 and then place an upgrade order online? Anyone done this or thought of doing it?

Placed my order in store (they tried to order for me on line as the model I want was (at that time) still in stock but because I also had to do the upgrade to Refresh and pay off the old contract in store, the system wasn't letting the transaction complete on line.

I've ordered and the quote is 3-6 weeks BUT they stressed that means the delivery will be anything UP to six weeks.  I guess it depends which colour/capacity you want.  The gold model has proved the most popular so anyone wanting that is likely to wait 6 weeks.

The only problem for me was I wanted to pay the full amount of the phone keeping the monthly cost for the future as low as possible but again the system would not permit that, I had to take the phone on the next tarrif down but was advised I can pay the difference in store once I have the phone.

The assistant also insisted I WILL get the open discount this way and that will be applied when the phone arrives - we shall see . . . . . .

Its been mentioned elsewhere that the main cause of the severe shortage of 5s is the finger print sensor. Apparantly they are struggling at present to meet the demand, and on top of that the high demand too of a newly launched iPhone.

Would it be possible for some confirmation/infomation on this issue.

Currently I have been advised over the phone that dependant on what your ordering that it is in stock with 02 online/phone. The 5s i'm after for example is a black 5s 16gb of which is listed as "in stock" when i asked and could be delivered within a few days.

However I have ordered (and payed for it) from in-store with a possible wait time of 3-6 weeks. I would like to know if the stores will be using the same stock as 02 online/phone.

My local store could not confirm if this was the case and neither could 02 when calling them via 202. Otherwise it looks as though ordering from in-store will just lead to a wait time of 3-6 weeks and ordering online will take a matter of days if the stock is currently in.....

Please could someone respond so that current 02 store customers who have placed orders or may consider placing one will not only know whats going on but also be aware that they will not see a product for possibly over a month while others ordering online will see it inside a week.

Do you have any sort of link or refrance to this at all please?

Surly this doesnt make sence however if the the phone is "in stock" regardless of location it should be sent to the home or store.

I have just been advised at the store that they "belive" that if its "in stock" online then it should be sent to the store as its available. However this is the problem nither my store or 02 customer services seem to know what the deal is or are able to confirm?

I understand that if the order is currently "out of stock" that when it does become available priority will be online customers first. That has be noted. However thats not my question.

Hope that makes sence and thanks for your quick reply.

trying to find a link from the reference but before they launched they been saying order over the phone or online as the stores expecting deliveries in the 6 week mark.
dont worry, i ordered and got told its 3-5days but lo and behold its up to 6 weeks.... so much for being 'given a delivery time' when ordering as advised by o2 themselves.

According to my local store where I made the pre-order (Ashford, Kent). There will be details being sent to all managers of 02 Stores by the end of the working day today with infomation on whats happening for customers who have ordered in store.

I was told to call back tomorrow and they should have some news then as to whats happening. I have also again confirmed that my model (5s space grey 16gb) is still currently "in stock" for online/phone customers as per 10mins ago.

Also according to the lady I spoke to at the store her understaning is this -

"if you are order number 479 for example at an 02 store then this should reflect to the online/phone store too. Effectivly the phones are all held in a pool on a first come first serve basis regardless of if you have ordered online or at an 02 store."

Hope this helps however i'll be contacting them tomorrow to see whats happening and what they know.
