@DK2

You need a 5g sim to receive 5g.

If your sim is less than a year old it should be 5g already.

If not, You'll need to call customer service.
Numbers here Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support
When it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
Say "Upgrade", "Lost/Stolen" or "Fraud" if you have to, to get put through to someone.
8.00am is the best time to call if you can.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

If you've upgraded or started a new contract, they should send a sim with the phone.

@DK2 If you're not in a 5G enabled area a 5G sim will get you...4G or less. You can use this link to see a generalised map of your area: O2 Network Coverage Checker | 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G Coverage

@DK2 Then you'll have to call customer service and request a new sim: Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

Unfortunately, you have to lie these days in order to speak to customer service. O2 doesn't consider your call important because you're not buying anything, so you have to use the Upgrade, Lost/Stolen, or Fraud option to get through. Otherwise you'll just be disconnected.

Edit: Below is alternative advice from an O2 Guru on how to get through. Same lies apply.
Call 202 from your mobile.
When it comes to the reason you are calling, stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
