4S - Poor signal strength and slow 3G

Anonymous
Not applicable
My phone is forever dropping calls. The O2 coverage map says I should get good signal where I live and also strong 3G. I hardly get 3G at all.

Today at work we had three iPhones next to each other. One on three one on t-mobile and mine on O2. We ran speedtest on all of them.

The one on three got a ping of about 100ms, download 8mb, upload 3mb.

The one on t-mobile got a ping if 130ms, download of 4mb and upload of 1.5mb.

Mine on O2 hardly connected. After several failed attempts to get speedtest to even connect to a server, I got 600ms ping, 0.0mb upload and 0.01mb download.

I got the same results each time I tried.

I had 3 bars and 3G showing. The others had 5 bars.

To send picture messages I have to change my phone setting so it shrinks the image size before sending.

This is not on at all!! I thought i2 weren't meant to be the best?!

I have the same issues at home. Have tried other O2 sims with same results.

Why won't O2 sort out their rubbish network?

I've just tried speedtest at home and I'm getting no 3G at all so no connection.

With other cell towers down in your area the ones left working will be over loaded and running at reduced capacity. You'll have to be patient until they get fixed.

I've been patient for months though. It's been rubbish all that time.

According to my home address there are no mast issues.

Do O2 monitor this?

I've never had 3G properly at my house since I went with O2.

Then why did you go with O2 ?

According to the status pages that we can see, there are masts with issues so other working ones will be struggling.

O2 has never had good coverage in that area (I know from experience)..

Surely you would choose the network with the best coverage, wouldn't you ?

I've been with O2 for about 18 months. I went with the deliberately because the coverage particularly in the dH1 post code was particularly good. But it isn't.

It's false advertising on their website I they're saying I should get 3G and good signal and I'm not and never have.

You should have tried with a PAYG sim first or cancelled your contract within the cooling off period when you found out the signal was rubbish. Coverage checkers are a guide to signal not a guarantee.....

O2 told me it was issues with masts in the Cooling off period.

Plus they had a good business contract with free calls between O2 etc.

All very good if you am actually make calls.

True, you can have the best tariff in the world, for free, but useless without a signal.....

The coverage checker is a prediction and say so not a factual map. That is why o2 give you the now 7 working days to test and then get out of contract only paying for what you use.

It is always best to get payg sims for all networks to check coverage.

many things affect coverage such as building construction etc.

In a while o2 will have the best coverage of all networks due to the 4g auction having the coverage obligation lot.

And now we know you are on a business contract I will not suggest tugo.

But when in poor 3g turn it off and 2g will work for calls etc and then use wifi for data.
