4G with 4th gen iPad

Anonymous
Not applicable

I bought a 4th gen iPad when it came out in late 2012, and got a 3G sim for it (4G hadn't rolled out at that point). Last weekend, I ordered a 4G sim to replace the old one.

When the sim arrived I put it in my iPad, but I wasn't getting a 4G signal. For comparison, my O2 HTC One gets 4G in the same location, so it's not a coverage issue. I was told by O2 that if I signed up for a data plan with the new sim then I would receive 4G. However, after doing so on Tuesday, my iPad still hasn't received any higher than 3G. 4G is certainly enabled, and I've tried it in a few different locations, but nothing.

Does anybody know what the problem may be?

I believe the problem is that it doesn't support Band 20 which is O2's frequency.
Should work with EE and Three though.

Thanks for the information. A little frustrated that after speaking to three different people at O2, and making it clear exactly which iPad it was, I'm only learning this now. May now have to cancel my data plan.

You would have every right to do this if you were misinformed. No good having this plan if it isnt supported by the device you want to use with it..:smileysad:

Most people get confused by this and Apple's strange marketing policy.
Some people successfully managed to sue Apple over misleading marketing of 4G capabilities.

Much easier to change network but I would like to see more people sue them

Called O2 today and got a refund, as well as cancelling my data plan. Got a Three 4G SIM (I was about ready to murder the salesman in the EE store...). Paying £5 more to get an additional 9GB, and getting 4G.

Success!
