iPhone 4 will not backup in itunes (transferring to iPhone 5)

I wonder if anyone can help me?

 

I have bought an iPhone 5 and am trying to backup my iPhone 4 through itunes.

 

I click the backup button and it does not work.

 

I have already had my phone number transferred to the nano SIM and now my iPhone 4 is saying 'no service' (as expected), could this be the reason why it will not back up?

you can put the nano sim in the supplied adaptor into the 4 to eliminate that if that fails try uninstalling itunes and doing a fresh install of itunes (all personal data music etc will stay on pc during uninstall)

Maybe a restore will help then the back up should work
