Although using star hash 10 hash is SUPPOSED to be FREE?, why does my data go down each time I use this method to look at my remaining data?

I now dare not look at it again for fear of using all my data up, even though I'm not using it for actual calls or texts etc.

PLEASE try *10# as I can't from here. There is also a number to text, 21202 on contract but I believe it's 20202 on P&G but I'm not sure. Bear in mind the link tells you to CALL the number so how on earth does that use data? I think charges are for a call....
