I started my first update on this brand new straight out the box s20+, and it goes to 5% then goes to a black screen. I can not get it to do anything at all. I tried holding down the lock key, and volume down key, and it brings up the start up logo, but then goes right back to the update that only  goes to 5%. Any suggestions are welcomed.

@kittnkaboodles Best thing for you to do is to contact Samsung support directly. If they can't offer a fix you'll need to return the phone to O2. Product Help & Support | Samsung United Kingdom I'd also contact O2 customer service. Best way these days is by social media:

Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB), Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW), or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

This is why Google Android better. You can literally fix a faulty boot process with a command prompt and USB debugging mode. So it might be an idea to ask Samsung to reset it for you or get a replacement s20 as a new handset should not be corrupting so early.

Really @anticpated

Google keep pushing out broken updates to their own handsets, and all Samsung do is secure the kernel with Knox and add a new UI (which is ****)

I am though liking Motorola's and Sony's implementation of near enough stock Android

- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

When I used Google handsets . The images were available on their developer website and you were able to revert to an older build if necessary. Obviously you lost all your data but it gave you a fresh start.

I haven't used the sdk or firmware updater since last decade. AOSP AFAIK is what developers are using with their launcher plus ui implentations.

I think the newer android 12 Samsung uses is OK but nowhere as efficient as vanilla android. Bugs are life though.
