s4 is a pile of rubbish

I have had my samsung s4 for around 5 months. Needless to say it is awful. My screen cracked in my bag pocket after 3 months. Livid to say the least. Not even fixing the damn thing cos what is the point as its just gonna crack again. Do not waste ur money on this product. Im now paying for a £450 phone which i can still use but eveyday the glass shatters more. I would buy myself out and get a new phone but seeming as its only 6 months old not even that i have 380 left to buy it out. Stop selling this product o2. Its bad for your rep. Get rid of it. I have 3 friends that got this phone. All 3 the screens have smashed. Samsung shouldnt be allowed to sell this product. Bet they are laughing at the amount of extra money they are getting for repairs!

It's rare for a mobile screen to smash all on its own.

Is it not Possible something in your bag caught it or something connected with your bag when the phone was in it.

You could check with household insurance or bank account t&c fir accidental damage. Excess fees would apply I assume.

Or speak to the manufacturer for support.

To add you could affix a screen shield to stop the glass cracks spreading as a temp fix.

I'm surprised as every Samsung I've had, even the cheapest one was rock-steady. The screens never ever get damaged apart from a slight blemish on my Nexus S when a key caught on to it.

Can it not be the conditions of the phone placement which caused this in the first place? I mean, Gorilla Glass 3 is pretty stong stuff however prolonged weight or heat exchange would probably be pushing the durability. After all it's screen protection from everyday graces not passing asteroids or solar flares. 😉

Nobody really knows if these things are getting rushed out of the factory or incorrectly checked for flaws. How do you know if the screen will crack again if you don't contest it?

You have two choices here - you go to 3rd party repair shop and get them to replace the screen. ZAGG are now starting to produce tempered glass covers for Smartphones.

Secondly you call O2, and get them to replace the screen using your insurance as a claim.

Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Never had problems with a Samsung screen yet tbh.

I'm thinking you are just unlucky but home insurance is your best bet as suggested.

I would strongly encourage you to invest in a full case for your next device. One that covers the screen too... that might help with these sort of situations. If you cracked your S4 screen, I would bet you would have cracked any phone's screen. These things are tough but not indestructible. The good news is future devices will have flexible screen meaning they will be highly unlikely to have their screen shatter.  Sorry for your loss as the S4 is in fact quite a good phone.

If it's any consolation, I agree

My screen is fine but that's about all that does work on this phone!

Hope you manage to sort something out.

I think we're both abit unlucky, I know other people love their s4's 😕

There are many rubbish phones out there but I'll never understand why people need to attempt to force their opinions on everyone else...?
You can break anything. Anything can go wrong. Upwards of 70 million S4's have been sold and there aren't 70 million with broken screens.
Sometimes you will get unlucky but there are options to get any phone repaired or replaced if you follow the process correctly - All does not have to be lost !!

there is a 103 page thread over on XDA about screens breaking for no reason.

the digitizer breaks but not the glass on the front, seems to have happened to quite a few S4's

from what i can work out the front glass has some give in it but the digitizer doesnt and they just crack.

Many reported instances but still not 70+ million.
Samsung were looking at possiblt replacing screens under warranty - I'm not sure what the outcome of this was though?
