I left my previous mobile provider in May and took out a 24mth contract with O2 getting an S4. When I got the phone, the signal was OK, but has slowly got worse to point of being shocking, and I'm only talking for phone calls and texts here, nothing exotic! I can have 2 bars showing, go to make a call and the signal drops out and I can't make the call. Or I can be standing in one place on the phone and I get cut off as the signal drops out. I run my own business and this is now getting seriously frustrating. When I've check the coverage, according to O2, the 2G signal should be strong - I've never had a strong signal show on this phone. And 2G is all I need to make calls. I can't even think about using this phone for the Internet. My wife reckons it could be faulty, as we know other people in our area who are on O2 and don't have problems like this. Is there anything I can try? Or should I just contact O2/Samsung about it? Thanks in advance.

Check your postcode for mast issues : http://status.o2.co.uk/
If you have cleaned the sim card you might want to replace it at your O2 store. This takes up to 24 hours.
Try a soft reset by holding down the power and home button until the phone reboots
If this doesn't help clear the cache partition:
Turn off the phone and remove the battery. Wait 2 minutes and put it back
Press and hold down Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
Release all buttons when you see S2 Logo.
Android system recovery will be loaded now
Select clear cache partition. (Volume buttons to go up or down, select with Home button)
Then select reboot.
A full factory reset will erase all data so do a back up first:
Turn off the phone and remove the battery. Wait 2 minutes and put it back
Press and hold down Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
Release all buttons when you see S2 Logo.
Android system recovery will be loaded now
Select wipe data/factory reset. (Volume buttons to go up or down, select with Home button)

The coverage checker is very innacurate so don't trust that (Tells me I should get full coverage indoors and out for 2G and 3G....I barely get any signal in reality). As Jonsie said check the status page see if there is any work.
If there isn't it could be just degrading, so best to get onto O2.

Thanks for that. I'll try the resets and a new sim. I don't think it can be work on the network as it's been like it for weeks.

Have you tried turning 3G off and using 2G only?

Has it ever worked even in another area?
What fault finding have you tried?
Is data turned on?
Have you checked here with your full postcode for faults in your area?
Can you get to an O2 shop to get your phone checked?
Have you sent ACTIVE to 2020 to get the correct settings?

Hi, I had same problem. Before I received phone which was delayed the cover was delivered.
From 1st second from opening box cover was on the phone. Poor signal and 3G. Then putting sd card in and there was same signal as on S2 which had before 2 more bars the S4. Swaped the cover and all works fine since. Hope you will have same good luck as me or your antena is faulty and send it back to o2. Try to compare with other phone in the same time and same network if u have the chance. Then straigt to O2, dont pay for something which doesn't worht it...
