I do wonder how many phones explode every year.  This could be related to the issues with the initial batch or could  just be bad luck.  A little googling shows that phones appear to explode all the time, even iPhones

http://www.itechpost.com/articles/36550/20161005/another-apple-iphone-explodes-due-battery-life-issu...

I'm actually quite suprised with so many LIon batteries out there and their inherent explosiveness that we don't see it more ofter which I think gives qudos to the companies that make billions of the things.

If there were 1000 smartphones exploding every year (which sounds like an awful lot...) you'd still be looking at only a 0.00005% failure rate (or 1 in every 2 million sold)

Admittedly the failure rate of the initial batch of note 7's was way above this at about 1 in 100,000 which is looking a lot more shakey.........

Although, for more perspective.  Even at that rate, you would be 10 times more likely to die in a car accident than having your phone battery explode....

It's no wonder then that some US networks have discontinued selling the Note 7
