Samsung S3 mini charging issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help. Last week my phone started playing up. Basically, it would lose charge, then when it was put on charge it would get to 53% and no further. Overnight while on charge it charged down to 9%. I tried 3 different chargers, and a USB charger, however the same thing happened.

I went to 02 and had my phone sent off. Without a smart phone for 5 days was pretty annoying, so you can imagine when I had my phone back I was told there was nothing wrong with it. They advised to update software which was done. However, I still have the same charging problem. My phone is now at 17% and dropping down to 9%.

Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do?

Thanks

Check and make sure the charging port is clean and not damaged in any way first. If that looks OK then easy checks are a different battery, different charger etc.
If it is still not playing after that it must be down to the charging circuit on the phone itself which needs a hardware replacement to repair it.

There are some reports of the S3 Mini battery suffering the same problems as the S4.
Basically the battery "bulges" and looses charge.
Check it on a flat surface and see if the battery is completely flat. If it rocks or spins freely it is faulty.

A similar problem (different voltage figures) Decided in the end to replace the phone, I couldnt be bothered with the hassel. I traded in via an O2 and I didnt loose out on cash wise on the deal.

The original battery had bulged but I replaced that with a new battery which I gave a chance to for a couple of weeks but the battery retention and the charge problem was still there

My HTC One is much better over battery use

I've just tried this test and it doesnt spin freely, so I guess this means the battery is ok? Might be worth buying a new one anyway and trying that.

I've only had the phone just over 6 months, so I wouldnt really want to be buying out my contract etc yet.

I've just ordered a new battery and samsung charger so I'll try those. I'm thinking its more likely to be a fault with the charging circuit / USB port. I did suggest this to 02 but phone came back with nothing wrong and just to update software. So I'll try these and then go back to 02. So frustrating!
