Samsung I5801 says disconnected from network.

Phoned 02 c.s. to get settings only to recieve a txt saying phone should be set up.Still had problems so txt ACTIVE to 2020 and got the same txt.On phone status says mobile network:disconnected.Why is this?

If no APN's on phone press menu then add and create them as per the link above.

 

Note APN not VPN - They are different things.

Says data roaming,access point names,use only 2g networks and network operators.Not giving me any of 02's homepages or their addresses.Do I have to input them myself?

The settings that were texted to you are the apn's. If you click on the apn setting you should see the O2 apn's listed and there should be a green dot by the top setting (O2 Internet or similar name). In Wireless and networks you "should" have a line that reads "Use packet data" which you can tick also (although I seem to remember that this may not be an option on O2 branded phones), so I think it automatically defaults to "On". The packet data switch should also be an option on the power button menu (press and hold power button for 1 second).
