Samsung Galaxy Y recent upgrade causing problem

I recently connected my Galaxy GT-S5363 to Kies on my PC and was offered a firmware upgrade. The upgrade worked - different icons for messages etc but today I tried to add a new number to my list of contacts and although the phone says it is saving it, the number doesn't show in my list of contacts. I only 58 numbers saved so contacts is not full.

I've tried turning off and removing battery but without success.

Can anyone offer a solution or can I reverse the upgrade? Thanks Tilly

In the contacts app click menu then chose contacts to display and make sure you have all selected.
