Samsung Galaxy S4

My son took a Samsung Galaxy S4 £32 per mouth 24 mths o2 Refresh. This morning he dropped the phone  the screen shattered bottom right hand corner cracks visible throughout the screen. Phone will boot  but nothing on  screen,no insurance was taken out because of bad press re mobile phone insurance.Contacted the o2 shop and was told screen replacement would cost £280 OK. Decided to take the handset to the shop what happens another quote this time £150.The assistant didn't seem to concerned and kept saying sorry about five times. Then he proceeded to ask had we a heat gun and we could repair it are selves. Following this he advised that we could take the phone else were had have it repaired cheaper. Not very good customer service and not very helpful. Looking at various forums and Youtube this handset seems to have quite a number of issues and design faults, screens cracking, breaking and shattering.I thought this didn't happen of course the o2 assistant explaned that it wasn't designed/made for dropping will say one thing o2 get your act together and provide loyal customers with decent support and a bit of TLC

With 02 they in my experience send the phone off to be looked at ,as its not just the screen that may need replacing due to impact damage. Something inside may have been affected also.

They then contact the customer by call or text to supply the repair costs and seek authorisation to go ahead or to send it back.

Tbh your best going with the manufacturer.

I hope all goes well.

You may want to look at insurance cover now. Their are well known companies who provide cover such as protectmybubble. Just check out all the t&c and small print.

Not sure I see you're point here. Your son bought a phone, declined insurance and dropped it. The store gave you a quote for repair but it seems to be O2's fault or a dodgy phone?

Perhaps the store could have been a little more sympathetic and understanding.

Has he checked his home insurance for cover on personal items? Most policies now have this built in. Some bank accounts also have mobile insurance. I understand it's upsetting when you pay a lot of money for a phone and repairs are very expensive but you now have to find the best option to get the screen replaced.

It's an informed choice wether to take out insurance or not !

In hindsight fitting a case around it could have saved it.

You could try a standalone repair shop but that way may invalidate remaining warranty or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
