Samsung Galaxy S4 - Signal Problems

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

I just took out a Samsung Galaxy S4 a few weeks ago.  In my work and surrounding area I get no signal at all even though other people here are on o2 too and have normal signal.  Is there something wrong with my handset?  I use handcent for SMS.

Thanks

Nicole

Others have said that the S4 can appear to have a lower signal than other phones, however, the signal can be reported lower but not actually be lower as the signal bars are just an indication.
My S3 has always shown a much lower signal than other phones I've compared it to but I've always been able to make calls OK.

Yes I've seen that too sometimes it doesn't show any bars but when you make a call they show up

I have updated to 4.4.2 kitkat and yes there is a 2g only option in there. I can't believe given o2's current poor signal in so many parts of the country that they thought it was a good idea to remove the option.

If you are not picking up 2g but you don't have the "no service" icon showing top right then your S4 is picking up the slightest of 3g. The S4 in common with most smartphones tries to connect to 3g first.
Update to kitkat then go to settings networks more networks then select 2g only.

Please note though that your phone will then stay on 2g everywhere you go. You will need to do the same as above but select auto lte/3g/2g to pick up 3g again.
