Samsung Galaxy S4 - Security Policy Update fails

Anonymous
Not applicable

Today I have a notification on my Galaxy S4 that there is a Security Policy Update available. It's from Samsung and designed to make their Android devices more secure. However, after accepting the data policy, it consitently fails with the error "Update failed due to network issues".

This is on the same wifi network that downloads email and browses the web perfectly fine. There is no update available via Samsung Kies.

There are similar posts on the Vodafone forums and there are unverified claims that Samsung have released the update notification without releasing the update itself.

Does anyone know the facts about the cause or solution to this problem?

Dunno if mine will stay off permanently or come back at some point but all i did was open the update, at bottom it says Cancel or Accept, I just did cancel and it vanished.  Sounds obvious but no one else has posted that they tried it lol.

Hi guys,

I'll see if I can get some info on this for you.

If you find anything out before I have some, don't hesitate to let us all know in this discussion.

Is it affecting anything else in the device (i.e. downloading apps)?

I have read elsewhere that it is caused by whatsapp. I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and so far no reappearance.

It seems that WhatsApp is definitely the culprit here. removed it, rebooted and then reinstalled. No issues now and the security update notification has now gone away.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for adding this. Can you try rebooting your phone to see if the issue returns?
