Samsung Galaxy S4 EXCESSIVE Battery Drain

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi. I have recently updated one of my Samsung Galaxy S4 handsets to 4.4.2.

Since the update battery drain has been excessive. In an "unused" state it will lose 12% between midnight and 7 am compared to my Note 3 that uses just 1%.

I hear it is becoming a common thread across forums, any ideas folks please?

Evening Gerry.

My reference to unused state basically means I charged to 100% by midnight then put the phone on the side and didn't touch it again until 7am. Nothing more tech than that lol

@Anonymous Shocked Oh what a let down!  I thought it would at least entail a check that wifi, mobile data, sound , bluetooth , gps, auto sync etc etc are all switched off to leave the phone in an absolute state of minimal battery usage.  But hey what the heck, I fuss too much is my problem. Hope you get it sorted and no doubt if you discover any means of reducing battery drain you will share with the rest of us.

Ok here is this mornings update.

Between midnight and 7 am today the battery use changed as follows (main ones). Note phone was not used by me but it does do its own things overnight.

Screen was 45% at midnight, 43% at 7am.
Android Services was 14% and still is 14%
Facebook was 10% and now 11%

So tonight will try airplane mode.

Any thoughts? ???
Thank you

Check your facebook sync settings (in the app) as that's way too high.
Looks like you have it sync'ing every 30 mins or something !!
Settings >App settings >Refresh interval.....

Actually Rich I should clarify that.

FB does not sync at all. The refresh interval is 30 minutes.

Yep exactly as I said above - Set it to "never"

My other half had this problem with 4.4.2 but it disappeared when we went overseas and stopped data/text/voice etc.

My Android tablet has Clean Master installed and although my battery seemed ok, Clean Master told me that the Daily Mail app was consuming lots of power.

Told partner and she removed the app from her phone (Experia Z).  Result is that her battery life is now ok.

May not be the solution to your problem, but may be of use to some
