Samsung Galaxy 2 Issues with 2 different handsets

Hi

I got my first S2 end of September but about 4 days in, it started turning itself off at random, one night I left it fully charged and by half 6 the next morning I found it had gone off again and once i got it back on by removing the battery and putting it back in again, it was charged to 17%, so after having had it a week, I took it back to the shop and they gave me a new one.

Now, after a week of having the new one, it started doing the same thing again, turning off at random, but just now, I was having a conversation with my dad whilst using speakerphone and he said to me...'what's that beeping on the line'? so I went to wake the screen up to take it off speakerphone to see if the beeping would stop, but the screen wouldnt come on. It was as if it was off again, no buttons worked, no screen, nothing, but somehow, the connection was still on for me to be talking to him. I got him to hang up and tried to charge it, no go, had to take the battery out again for it to come back to life.

I tried updating firmware but it said there were no updates...any ideas before I go to the shop and do....well, I dont know what really, I gather I have 28days to get a new one and I got this 2nd one on the 5th, but Im not sure having a 3rd one would make any sense if they're all going to be faulty!

Model GT-I9100P

PHONE: I9100PXXLPC

Any advice / help much appreciated

So far OK, but too early to say cos dare I say it, usually happens every other day or infrequently, but it seems to have picked up the pace as it were over this past week, twice in 24 hours 😕  hard to know when I can say it's sorted cos it's so random, see how things go over the weekend...

Is it overheating? That could cause some of the bugginess, wi-fi apps (that turn on wifi by location etc.) have in the past caused me problems after the 4.0.3 upgrade. There is a bug with Swype included in the 4.0.3 build that occassionaly causes it to eat up about 40% of the CPU and quickly drain the battery, someties stopping the phonefrom waking back up. It seems to come and go so you experience it a lot then not for a few weeks, there is a post about it on here somewhere with a link to the Swype forum discussing it. The majority of my problems were solved by a factory reset and a clean of the cache after updating to 4.0.2. Maybe thats worth a try in your case.

It didnt happen over the weekend but if it does i'll be sure to check out your suggestion, thank you Lord! wink Looking at my phone I can't actually see Swype, I don't use it, not even sure what it is tbh!

I'm not convinced i'm out of the woods yet, as you said, it can be on and off with a week in btwn, I have also downloaded 'Advanced Task Killer' to kill anything that may have been running that I was unaware of.

I did find it odd that the phone appeared to be off but I was still managing to hold a conversation and the quick battery drain on the first handset sounds like what you mentioned.

No need for any task killers, Android will do this by itself as required. They can cause problems on some phones....
