S4 Update problems

Anonymous
Not applicable

Has anyone else had problems with their S4 since the update that came through about 10 days ago?  Mine is hanging some of the time.  It seems slower to respond and the battery is draining far quicker than it did.  I've only had the phone 3 months, so it isn't the fact that it is getting old.  Also some of the apps don't work anymore.  O2 guru was a waste of my time and his cos he just said it was to do with the jelly bean update for the S3 and that Samsung would probably do something about it in time... not impressive!

Have you done a factory reset. We always advise it after an update....?

Hi Everyone

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and had the updates last night.  Today I no longer have my phone icon

when you say factory settings do you mean press the power off, home and volume button at the same time aftre powering off?  I have tried this (apparently I'm meant to get a little robot coming up which didn't happen)  so I'm still without the phone iconSmiley Mad

thanks for your help in advance:smileytongue:

First off try a soft reset. Turn off phone and remove battery for 5 mins, then try again.
If still no good you can hard reset from recovery menu. Turn off, then (in this order) hold home, volume up and power. Keep holding power until you see the robot appear then let go. Navigate to reset with volume buttons and press power key to execute. You can also reset from the settings menu but it is best done from recovery as described above.

Dont know if this is applicable or not, I'm not one of the clever ones here but on last kitkat update on S4, I had a battery drain problem which factory reset didnt resolve, however I found that it was being drained by avg security app that had been working fine previously, changed to look out and had no further problems.

Dunno about 'not being one of the clever ones' @Anonymous ...our Android expert @MI5 recommended Lookout to me last week. (Well what he actually said was 'If I had to have  something ...Lookout was by far the best :smileywink:)

I would have tried re-installing AVG, I use it now and have no battery issues with it.

Had already tried that Perksie, to no avail, it was no different, so chose look out, now I'd say its better than others, having tried it, uses little battery and never caused problems.

My other half installed Lookout after @MI5 suggested it. He seems very pleased with it...:smileywink:
