Just call customer service and they will supply a new sim with the same number.

Once received you will need to call them to activate it and to remove the block of the account.

O2 will replace the sim card for free but as you say, you will need to buy a new phone to put it in as well as continue paying for the lost one.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
