No charger - why should I pay?

I'm aware there's no charger included with my HTC One X+ to help save the rain forrests and all that stuff, but the problem is charging from my PC takes at least twice as long.  So I'm forced to pay extra for the inconvience o2 caused me?  That doesn't sound fair at all to me.  I bet o2's "discounted charger" is poor quaility also and doesn't output 1A like the HTC charger does.  I want a genuine HTC charger that charges my phone properly and I shouldn't have to resort to paying £5 on ebay for a proper one.

With an expensive phone why would you want to use a third party charger?

My thoughts exactly.  You want one with a good regulated output, up to two amps these days is available.

You also want one that just connects the usb power connectors and not the data connectors so that you can be sure that it's not installing anything nasty on your phone without you knowing.

Also, you could look for one that works on any voltage, has lightning protection, a built in solar panel, works underwater, and charges three phones at once.

I thought the HTC phones came with a data cable that doubles up as a charger but without a 3 pin plug. The idea is you plug the data cable into the top of an existing plug that has the connection for usb. @Anonymous

And what you don't want is any unregulated cheap charger  that you may find on Ebay.  I have seen the results if this with patients in A/E who suffered debilitating burns or shocks from cheap imported rubbish chargers slight_frown

Absolutely. 99p Inc delivery postage and packing should ring alarm bells.

Compare 99p versus say £15 for a branded charger versus an evening in A&E and all the struggles after that.

But that still doesn't answer the question about whether new phones come with a combined days cable that doubles as a charger. Without it how can HTC T&C's dictate if they haven't provided one.

I am certain you get a mini usb cable now and you are expected to use existing plugs that have a usb port.

You can even buy double sockets that replace the standard ones in your house and have usb charging outputs on them.

Good quality ones are available for £20.

Those chargers are made exclusively to charge iPhones on the end of a long extension lead, out of harms way.  Don't use them for any other purpose Evil.

But seriously, do people really begrudge paying up to £20 for a charger, or do they just not believe that there is a difference in quality?

I don't think people begrudge paying, it's the fact it should be included with the phone.

The last couple of phones I have had only had a usb cable and I use an existing usb plug to charge with

I meant that when people have made the decision to purchase, do they choose a 99p one for the sake of saving a tenner or so, knowing that they are buying tat, or do they think that all chargers are equal, and it's just mark up on the more expensive ones?

To be honest, I'd rather they didn't include a wall plug, just a USB lead, I have enough good quality USB outlets in my house already, and only need a charger on the move, which often means abroad where it won't fit anyway.
