Hi all,

After owning it for 3 months the rear glass on my Nexus 4 has begun to exhibit cracks as described here:-

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/04/12/nexus-4-problems-broken-backs-busted-wireless-chargers/

or here:-

http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-4-cracked-back-glass-135237/

Or:-

http://www.amphone.org/nexus-4-glass-back-could-crack-with-temperature-change

(you get the picture)

I explained to the webchat lady that the cracks seemed to appear after the phone became exceedingly hot in use and there were many reports of spontaneous cracking sround the interwebs. I assured her it hadn't been dropped and that the lack of an impact point hopefully supported this.

"No problem", she said "we'll fix it ASAP."

I thought this was great, as i'd expected a battle but I wanted to be sure.

"Please don't take the handset from me for a week only to claim it's accidental damage and then return it unrepaired"

"Our engineer will sort it", was the ambiguous reply.

By now, you probably know where this is going.

It's just shown up on my repair tracker as 'Out Of Warranty - awaiting quote.'

So, who has ultimate responsibility for the handset? I bought it from a third party retailer online who have yet to reply to an email from 4 days ago.

Is it LG, O2 or the retailer?

Thanks in advance for your help.

When you get the standard,

"We're not gonna fix it for free because you did (Insert excuse)"

Get the phone returned and arrange a fix with LG contacting them directly.

Never use O2 to repair a phone as this always happens!

If your phone is 3 months old then it is still under warranty with LG.

Your first point of contact is the retailer. It's them you have the legal contract with. After that fails I'd go directly to LG.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Awesome, thanks for the help.

LG appears to be denying responsibility globally and the retailer (mobiles.co.uk) haven't replied to my emails.

Time to pick up the phone.

Thanks again.

(on webchat at the moment and the repair cost is £29.91 which is actually reasonable had I actually been at fault)

I'm shocked it's that reasonable tbh. Usually the starting price is a £100 plus whatever else they can screw you forSmiley Surprised. Stick to the advice given, you shouldn't be liable for any cost given your stated circumstances.

The person who was operating machinery at the LG factory or the layout about warehouse staff chucking the boxes about was responsible. :manwink:

I was thinking about getting a Nexus 4 direct and it looks like I will be getting a protective case for the back also.

No that's like buying a Ferarri and skinning it in a Ford Ka.

Hi, I'm so sorry to dig up this old thread, but I was wondering; who did you get this quote from and where is the live chat? Thanks in advance.
