I was just wondering if there is any info on O2 releasing the Android 7.1.1 update for this cracking little phone.

Other companies have now released it in the uk.

I have zero info around the Moto G4 Play at present, and whether this would be an open market update that'd be pushed directly by Moto, or if it'd need tested by us - but I'm checking into this with our team and i'll get back to you when I know more.
