Contract is just up and wanting to change to a sky sim will my S8 PLUS be locked to o2 ?

O2 don't usually lock handsets, however if it is you can request it is unlocked free of charge (request this before you cancel your account), you should get instructions within a couple of days.

On a side note Sky runs on O2 I think so you might be ok anyway

Although O2 phones have only been sold unlocked since June 2018...so depends when it was purchased....

The S8 would have been locked when it was released as it was still policy at that time.
A sky SIM will not work in an O2 locked phone either, however, some phones at launch were not locked.
Best to try another SIM as I suggested earlier.
