If you wish to keep your current mobile number to use on another network then you can ask for a PAC Code which when your new network uses it, this auto cancels your O2 contract and a final bill is sent.

Please check out alternative networks by trying out their payg SIM cards. If your phone is locked to O2 then you can un lock free as a contract customer or £15 as a payg customer (T&C apply )

I have read the opening post Thank you and one must take into account that if another person performs a search looking for similar information and comes across such threads / posts and advice then the information about un locking is pertinent to both Contract and Payg customers apart from some T&C and Admin cost. 

 

Im sure the OP has quite easily filtered out the part that involves their type of contract. 😉
