Galaxy S3 outgoing calls problem.

I can only make calls to people already on my contacts list. This is no help as I'm trying to get in touch with other people today. The phone immediately hangs up on numbers not saved. Tried being clever by saving numbers into my contacts but it still won't call them.

I contacted the gurus but they want to connect my phone over Kies and fix it from there - not keen on that.

Why would my phone be able to make external calls one day but not the next?!

I've tried taking the battery out and re-inserting the sim card but that didn't work. Would a reset not wipe the entire phone?

It would, yes.

But you can back up everything before the reset.

Unless you try fixing thru Kies first....?

Was the phone's software updated recently?

There is a call blocking feature that prevents you from dialing numbers that are not already in a fixed contact list. It's in the call app menu and it's called "fixed dialling list" Check this hasn't been enabled by mistake.
