Unable to post comments on facebook because the keyboard facility on my Samsung Galaxy S3 doesn't appear when I open up comment.

No, but if I do will it affect anything I've saved on my phone such as photos?

Back up to kies first before restoring

Check first what default keyboard you have set in Settings >Language & Input. A factory reset will completely wipe everything off the phone except the operating system and the factory apps.
