Charged for irl roaming text messages

I've switched off roaming charges.........I was at home in the UK when these texts occurred to a phone number that I don't recognise and I supposedly sent 35 of them in 12 hours. I didnt' do this, but I was downloading some apps from google store??  Could that have something to do with it.  I live very close in N. Ireland very close to the border to Ireland, but as I say I turned off the roaming charges a two months ago. I've only had a mobile for 3 months and every month I get surprises......Samsung Galaxy Ace, monthly simplicity. Thanks.

Does this make any sense and could it be a cause.

You have to be careful with Apps especially some of the obscure ones.

Thanks - I think that's it.......haven't been charged anything since that night, but haven't deleted any of the apps either.......it's a big learning curve for me. My goal is to stay within my limits (so I don't get extra charges) for one month....This will be my 4th month with a mobile so I'm still pretty new, but having fun with ALL the stuff a phone can do!!  It's not just a phone....
