Any obvious reason for HTC Wildfire not to download the O2 wifi App
I can get to the page with the App & the install button but using the button doesn't seem to do anything
Wifi is apparently working OK as I can get to internet pages and also download mail
amy thoughts plase?

That sounds like a Wildfire S.
Whether you have data depends which tariff you have.
You don't need it to use O2 Wi-Fi.

with just pay & go I doubt I have any data allowance

You can check in "My O2" at the top of the page.

I don't think the original Wildfire was updated from 2.1 so it must be the "S".
You should be able to download the app OK by either wifi or mobile data.
If it's been awkward, try rebooting the phone.

Yes it was, I have one and it runs 2.2.

Not sure what Pay and Go has to do with not having data.
Check your account.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies
I found the answer ~misplaced operator presumption as to what was actually loaded on the phone ~as in I hadn't got the play store app
I'd been using a Galaxy Tab 3 just previously where play store came ready installed
Have downloaded that and succesfully loaded acrobat reader from play sore that works as I can read a PDF attachment to an email
Thanks again
