As with all updates we receive from vendors (eg, Sony, HTC, Samsung etc) we look to test and approve these quickly. With security patches, we aim to approve these the day we receive them. Many devices already have patches for this bug and those that don't, should have them soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

We'd also like to recommend some good habits to get into with your Android device that may help keep you more secure

  1. Ensure ‘Unknown Sources’ in ‘Settings’ is disabled and only install games/apps from the official Play Store
  2. Ensure you’re using the official O2 software/updates and not a 3rd party ROM or unlocked bootloader
  3. Set up a secure password or PIN, don’t open suspicious emails, don’t connect suspicious USB devices (ie, via USB OTG)

A patch was developed long before this reached the "news"

I had 8 days ago. Apart from it stating it was a 'security fix'...I paid little heed and installed it (yep...I know ME...without asking here first!) Bouncy

Hopefully the patch will be distributed as quickly as possible no this made the headlines.

As stated above, Samsung have released it already on unbranded devices.

How long will it take networks to respond though.......?

That was my concern. The patch is available but it might not be provided to users of affected handsets right away.

Maybe you can give O2 a poke in the right direction then Martin?
Be nice if O2 lead the way on this one.....

I installed the patch a couple of weeks ago and from memory it was a hell of a big patch, some 300 odd Mbs.
