Does anyone know when or if the 5.1 update will be available for the xperia z1?

The last message from Sony (http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2015/07/21/android-5-1-lollipop-rolls-for-the-xperia-z3-and-xperia-z2-se... was that the update was being released for z2/z3 (etc) on 21 July with z1 and the rest "over the coming weeks".

Given that was 5 weeks ago, what's happening?

As a slight aside, how do people view o2 for sending updates? Better or worse than other networks? And are Sony better or worse than other manufacturers? (Obviously this is all interpretation, unless someone has tracked who issues updates, when and how long it took!!)

Ta,

Gary

@Chris_K is the man for rollouts but it's mainly the manufacturer that does their bit before they then release it to the network who test it then add their apps etc before a public release. Samsung owners are waiting as well

Generally:
O2 are quick on Sony current flagships, faster than sim free UK.
Sony are one of the slower updates than other manufacturers but sometimes quicker. They will also support older models longer than most other.

I've always found Sony pretty quick with updates, but having said that, still waiting for the much needed 5.1 on my Z1

Thanks for the quick replies.

Guess, like with most things, it is just a case of waiting.

Given that most contracts are 2 year deals you would think that operaters and manufacturers would at least maintain that level of support, but it seems as though once there is a "new shiny thing" then our poor device is discarded or ignored.

Admittedly my contract is in place until March 16, but I am starting to get wandering eye again - the G4 and the rumours of new Nexus devices are piquing my interest!

Hope this helps. Last time it took 4 weeks to reach my Z1c, so it will probably be the same again??
