Oneplus 5T WhatsApp thinks no data connection but there IS (4G & WIFI) !

Anonymous

Hi,

I got a Oneplus 5T but after a few days WhatsApp started to behave like there is no data connection, even when I was on WIFI or 4G. I could use other apps with data. I would be really interested if anyone else is having the same problem. It happened near the time I put a second SIM in so I tried to replicate it as follows and it did replicate. But I am struggling testing with one SIM because this is also behaving silimlar but as I haven't done a full test as below with one SIM and gone throught the reinstall process I need to reserve my judgement.

  • OxygenOS 4.7.2
  • Andriod 7.1.1
  • Android Security patch 1 October 2017
  • Build Number ONEPLUS A5010_43_171115

Replication Steps

  • Uninstall WhatsApp
  • Install WhatsApp
  • Settings>SIM & network>SIM 2>Enable
  • Playstore>WhatsApp>Install
  • Open WhatsApp
  • Agree Terms Continue
  • Allow - Phots etc
  • Allow – Contacts
  • Enter mobile number to verify Connecting…
  • OK Continue - Auto detect
  • Allow – SMS
  • Select call me
  • Enter code
  • Restore backup if you have one
  • ## messages restored
  • Next
  • Next
  • Initializing
  • Restart
  • WhatsApp
  • Reboot
  • Open WhatsApp

**There will be no Last Seen status and when you send a message you will not get 2 ticks. Someone sending a message to you will get the same.

Thanks

Lee

Hello Martin,

I refreshed the cache as OnePlus said like this :-

- Power off your device.
- Press the power key + volume down for a few seconds.
- Select English.
- Look for Wipe data and cache > Wipe Cache

and then reinstalled Whatapp said, but also at the same time the phone received an update ONEPLUS A5010_43_171206.

Now I cannot replicate it. I will monitor this for a week. But not sure which made a difference. If I was a betting man, I would say the update.

Could be a whatsapp issue with the firmware.
Have you tried the OP forums or emailed whatsapp support?

BTW, @Anonymous, has your 5T not been offered Oreo version of Android yet (8.0.0 came to my 3T a couple of weeks ago, unbidden). Just in case it's what OnePlus Support are going to recommend you do...
