@viridis is the man for the S6 edge but if it's the same as Note 4 apps, some are capable of been used in split screen mode and some aren't. You can drag and drop the ones you want to use into your shortcut bar.
Click the little arrows at the bottom of the shortcut bar and choose edit to rearrange the apps list.

Yeah, it's that ^^^
To see which of your apps are able to be split screened, hold down the recent apps button and the list can be viewed.
Scroll left and right to go through them.

I.e
Some apps can't be split screened.
You can also window the current app by swiping diagonally from the top corner.
This allows you to keep what you're looking at in a window whilst opening and using another app.
