Hi everyone,

We've had a few interesting discussions previously related to accessibility and mobile devices - firstly, I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to participate in these topics, and also to link them from here in case you didn't have a chance to check them out earlier:

There's a very interesting blog article on the Mighty around how a mobile phone can help a mum support her daughter with autism. You can read the full article here. Here are a few things from the article that the author has found helpful:

  • Communicating with each other around more personal matters including negative emotions, with a messenger app, when expression by spoken words might be difficult.
  • Sharing advice over text in difficult situations or when not feeling well, even if you're in the same house at the time, but physical contact might not be preferable
  • Sharing calming-down strategies over message so they can be read through when the time is good

It would be great to hear your thoughts on this, and if you've had any similar experiences or helpful suggestions? There are also apps out there that are made with the purpse of helping people with autism communicate - if you've come across any of these apps, please do share. Smiley Happy
