The Who: Moving On!

Hi everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend!

The Who will be performing their Moving On! Show at the Wembley Stadium in London, on 6th July 2019! Priority tickets will be available on Wednesday 30th January.

The gig will be backed by a symphonic orchestra! On stage you will see guitarist/backup singer Simon Townsend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey. There's also a a couple of special guests announced so far: Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder as well as Kaiser Chiefs!

I've just read on their official website something that should add even more excitement for the fans: The Who will also be releasing a new album later this year, for the first time in 13 years!

I agree @Cleoriff. I saw The Who in 1965 at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey. They were the bottom of the bill. We'd gone to see Herman's Hermits. When The Who opened the show we all sat there with our mouths agape. They were so incredible that we didn't care about the rest of the show.

@Cleoriff Did you ever attend their live performances yourself? Will you be interested in the new album? I saw on their site that it will come out sometime towards the end of this year.

@Bambino I had to google Herman's Hermits as I'm not familiar with their music, and have just listened to 'No Milk Today" I realised it was familiar after all, just one of those that I didn't know the artist.

Legend has it that Animal from the Muppets was inspired by Keith Moon, but apparently it is just legend.

I've seen them live 5 times.

The Coventry Theate in 1967. They were supported by Dream, Marmalade, The Herd, Traffic and The Tremeloes.

Leicester in 1973, supported by The Steve Gibbons Band.

Birmingham three times (twice at the NEC) they we supported by Nine Below Zero on one occasion.

They were supported by Kasabian at the NIA)

I think I mentioned before, we took our two lads to one of their gigs at Birmingham and they have been great fans of The Who ever since.

Problem is, the price of tickets to see them now, is exorbitant.

Edited to add: No doubt one of the lads will buy the CD for us at Christmas

My husband has confirmed that Animal was based on Keith Moon. A fact he picked up by reading a book about The Who

@Cleoriff 5 times!! That's really cool. Have they remained the same through all those gigs you attended in terms of the presentation and "style" of the gigs, or do they vary the shows a lot?

@BambinoI had to google Animal from the Muppets just now as I wasn't familiar with that either. Learned a lot today!

I went back and edited my post to show the support acts.

I thought they were brilliant at the Coventry Theatre, not so good at Leicester as they were heavily into the drug scene

However, once they kicked that habit, they were wonderful when we saw them in Birmingham.

I personally think they are better as they got older. Superb performances and the light show is spectacular.

Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and Ginger Baker (Cream) have also been thought of as inspirations for Animal, but according to the link above, none are true.

Also just found this. Look at Saturday, August 12. I got the year wrong. It was 1967.

I've just told him. He's quite sad as he thought Animal was classic Keith Moon at his 'maddest'

Though if the book he read about The Who stated this, it's probably because the author was taken in by the legend as well

He shouldn't feel too sad, @Cleoriff, until I found that link I'd always thought Keith Moon had inspired the character, but the others that have been suggested make sense too.

I saw the original Who - with John Entwhistle and Keith Moon - in Birmingham pre-Tommy and on the Qudraphenia tour in Wolverhampton.
