Migrating existing O2 number to new O2 contract while abroad

I have an existing O2 contract which runs out while I am abroad (USA).

As 3rd party websites like Quidco always offer a better deal than 'upgrading' my existing contract, I always buy a new O2 contract, and then migrate my existing number over to the new contract (O2 to O2 so no pac code).

In the past, it has always been a headache, but gets done. So a 2 part question:

1) Is there something specific I should ask for when doing this so that it's NOT a headache? Many O2 reps don't seem to know this is possible and then botch the process resulting in several days without access to my phone (I think it's meant to be a max of 24 business hours)

2) is this possible to do while I am abroad?

3) And a bonus 3rd question - will my Volt benefits get applied while I am abroad?

Thanks!

1. Emphasise you want to MIGRATE your existing number to the new contract

2. this should be possible whilst overseas as it's done on the system and you don't need to be connected to the O2 network

3.Again it's done automatically by the system but can take 14 days or longer in some instances

As advised though, best done in the UK

In addition, your Q3 - so long as addresses match between Virgin Media and O2, Volt should go on automatically after 14 days: <LI-PRODUCT title="Bigger benefits - Volt" id="BiggerbenefitsVolt"></LI-PRODUCT> @badmansam
