Been into shop who told me to go online and then called abs awoke to someone who says "they can't give out 5g sim cards unless you are buying a phone or on a sim only payment".... I am happy with my PAYG and have been for more than 20 years, but now I get a phone for Xmas and can't use it to its full potential. Seems like my only option is leave o2.
