24 month contracts only??

hi all, i currently have an iphone 4 and get my upgrade in december and want the iphone 5.

i've always had 18 month contracts and i don't understand why there aren't any at all at the moment for the iphone 5?? anybody have any ideas?

Because the networks want to lock you in for as long as possible to recoup the subsidy levied against your iPhone 4 when you took out the contract and to encourage you to use their services etc.
