Activate sim and iphone

Is there any way to activate an O2 sim, without putting credit on? I have been given an iPhone 5s that has been erased. Before you ask, no it is not stolen. I am on GiffGaff, which is not accepted by the iphone for activation. Hence my question.

I'm also on giffgaff as well and I'm sure that iPhone now show the giffgaff logo.... Have u asked on help and support over on giffgaff? You might have to enter settings manually?

You will need to top up if it's a PAYG sim

Giffgaff is a recognised carrier so it should work. Try connecting to iTunes with your gg sim in it so it downloads the carrier settings.
