High data usage when you are connected via wifi?

Most of us on here are aware of this buts its making news and there is now a support page on the Apple website.

By default it is set to 'on' so if you have limited data follow the steps to disable it.

There have been lots of concern about this WiFi Assist. If honest I am not sure I would want my phone automatically switching to mobile data without my 'permission'. How reliable would it be to switch it off?

Something I certainly wouldn't want happening whilst I was abroad...

It seems Apple have attempted to ease concerns about this ....

It's something obviously shamelessly copied from android who have had smart network switch for years. This switches between wifi and mobile networks as well as between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz to maintain a stable Internet connection.

You might want to check the box isn't ticked in your own wifi settings....

Checked that ages ago.... and no problem for me.

I leave mine on as it helps with the poor wifi I get at work.
It only kicks in on Android with large files so makes no difference to normal browsing, emails etc.

How big do the files need to be before "download booster" kicks in on Android @MI5 ?

Does the iPhone use this WiFi Assist feature on all data use or again on large files?
