see my answer in your other thread please @Anonymous

change your tariff to big talker then any top up is left on the phone to use for unlocking.

There are two allowances that are available depending on how much you top up

Top up £10 and get

3000 O2 texts and 50MB of data. You keep your top up

Top up £15 or more and get

3000 O2 minutes, 3000 O2 texts and 100MB of data. You keep your top up

Joining Big Talker

If you're new to O2, you'll need to visit an O2 store or o2.co.uk/freesim to get a free Big Talker Sim.

If you're an existing Pay & Go customer, either

Text BIGTALK free to 21300

Call 2202 free from your mobile

Visit My O2

Re: Unlatching Request - Kana Case ID: 685325747 (KMM1171371601I15977L0KM)

I originally sent in a request to unlock my I Phone from O2 so that I
can go with EE.
I received an email with the above Case ID saying that I did not have
enough credit to enable you to complete my request and that I need to
have £15 credit on the phone for it to be unlocked.
My concern with this is that if I Top Up £15 onto my phone then £10 will
automatically come off my balance for my Pay As You Go that I no longer
require. I do not mind paying the £15 so could you please advise on how
I can complete this request.
I would just like to explain my reason for me changing from O2 to EE.
I am in my sixties and over the last nine months my husband has spent a
lot of time in a local hospital on the outskirts of Hull having Major
Surgery for Cancer followed by Chemotherapy. All the time I was there
with him my phone always showed NO SERVICE but his phone which is EE
always had a good signal. This caused many problems because many family
members had been trying to reach me and it was not until I got a signal
after I had left the hospital that I realised how many texts & calls I
had missed because of NO SERVICE.
I look forward to your reply and advice on how to proceed with the
unlocking of my I Phone.

I do not want to renew this!!!!!!!

I believe you need to top up £20, as it costs £15 to unlock a Pay & Go phone, and you also need credit on the phone.

It is rather confusing!!!!! All I want to do is pay £15 and unlock my phone. I don't want my Pay As You Go anymore. There should be some way you can pay the £15 to O2 without having to put credit on your phone. I would have to put £25 Credit on and £10 would go straight away for My Pay As You Go for a month which I really don't want and £15 would be taken for the unlocking. Surely there is a more simple way of completing this!!!!!!

Change tariff as above. Once the change has gone through, any topup will remain on the phone as long as you don't text or call. Top up £15 and submit the form again.

Sorry to say, but I think that's the only way you can do it. To further add to your confusion, if you want to keep your phone number when you switch to EE, you need to call Customer Service on 4445 and request your PAC, which is a code you would need to give to EE to transfer your number.

I am not wanting to keep my number or phone, I have already got a phone and monthly contract with a new number. I am giving my I Phone 5 to my 12 year old Grandson and he went into EE and they can do a Sim for him for a £1 a week. This being the reason for me trying to get the phone unlocked.

Simply change tariff then the £15 you top up stays on the phone to pay for the unlock. Make sure the tariff change has gone through before topping up.

Okay. You've clarified the situation now, but you're still going to have to go through the process that has been suggested to you. I don't think there's any other way around it. If there is still any excess on your O2 P&G sim after you get it unlocked, your grandson can either use it until the credit runs out, or you'll just have to write off the extra money you've had to pay.

Many Thanks, just been reading about Big Talker and this looks like the option I need to take!!!! The only other way I guess is to top up on my Pay As You Go which will take the £10 off for the month and leave me £15 in credit, then let my Grandson use it for the month and when it is near the due date to be topped up again fill in the form to have it unlocked with the £15 Credit I have. Many Thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it. Not nice getting old and not understanding technology!!!!!!

Just remember the tariff change won't take effect until your anniversary date, so request the tariff change now and then look in your My O2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2 to see when it will change.
Once the tariff has changed you then need to top up with your £15 and then request the unlock again.
