Cant delete emails on iPhone 6

I got my new iPhone 6 yesterday and set it up with a backup from my iCloud. I started receiving emails that I had already deleted on my previous iPhone. So I deleted these on my new iPhone but they just keep reappearing. I have got up this morning and I have 5000 "unread" emails that I just can't delete! Everytime I try to delete them it says that they cannot be deleted, or they appear to have been deleted but then just reappear. I have tried googling the problem and all the fixes I have found are for IMAP servers but this is a hotmail account and is on a pop3 server.
Can anyone please help, this is driving me crazy!!!!

Use the hotmail app.

Thanks jonsie, I had already checked this out and tried everything on there but none of it has worked.
Have logged into hotmail on my laptop and made sure the option to allow other devices to delete emails is on. Also gone into advanced email settings on here and made sure delete from server is chosen, but the emails are still just reappearing in my inbox!
